Khudozhesveniy Cinema Loved the David Byrne soundtrack and "This Must be the Place" (at the end) is such a beautiful song.
Gekko's speeches fall slightly flat. I'm not sure if this is because...
- they weren't translated well (not sure what I would do with a cultural reference like..."everybody's drinking the same cool-aid")
- the director wants to show people responding over-eagerly to simple statements
- Stone wants to say that the world has really changed, people have seen through capitalism altogether and New Yorkers are just the last to wake up
I thought the story was quite deftly woven with recognisable, almost real, events from the start of the financial crisis, even a suggestion of later actions against the banks that did well out of it. Excellent use of silly jewellery and plastic surgery to suggest decadence.
